"We Remain Committed"

Happy 90th Anniversary, Dosher Memorial Hospital!

"Today, more than ever, we remain true to our core values, allowing our integrity to lead our decisions, so that you may receive exceptional care in the process."

-Lynda Stanley, President, Dosher Memorial Hospital and Foundation

June 2nd, 1930 was not a "business as usual" day for Southport, North Carolina, as it witnessed the opening of Brunswick County Hospital. Later renamed for its founder, Dr. J. Arthur Dosher, the hospital would provide accessible healthcare for local residents of the Cape Fear Region and hopes of economic revival in the wake of the Great Depression.

This past June 2nd was also not a "business as usual" day, as noted by Dosher Hospital and Foundation President Lynda Stanley at an event which commemorated the hospital's 90th anniversary. Stanley acknowledged that Dosher celebrated this milestone amidst the backdrop of a global health crisis and the civil unrest.

Due to restrictions on group gatherings in light of the Coronavirus pandemic, a limited number of Hospital leaders and guests gathered in the Dosher Hospital lobby for a Facebook Live streamed program as an alternative to holding an in-person event, to honor past and present employees, medical staff and volunteers, acknowledge the support of city and county officials, and to thank the community.

Presenters included Chairman of the Dosher Board of Trustees, Robert Howard, Dosher Department of Medicine Chair and Mayor of Southport Dr. Joe Pat Hatem, Dosher Foundation Board member and former Board Chair, Barbara Boland, President of the Dosher Volunteer Organization Jeri Robinson, and Dosher Hospital and Foundation President Lynda Stanley. Remarks included a brief history of the hospital, the accomplishments and contributions of its founder Dr. J. Arthur Dosher, recognition of the hospital staff, and acknowledgement the hospital's role in the community. Madison Drew, Jwantana Frink, who is a Dosher Trustee, and Grace Heck, closed the program with a musical performance which ended with "Happy Birthday."

Stanley cited the "unprecedented times" the world is in while she spoke and concluded her remarks by saying, "I have faith that during these turbulent times, we can survive. We have for 90 years, and as a community, we will move on. Let us stand together and meet the challenges head on."

Thank you for trusting Dosher Memorial Hospital with your care.
