A Message From the Board

Onward
By Robert Howard

2019 marked many positive milestones for Dosher. The year began by celebrating the conclusion of the Capital Campaign, which raised over two million dollars to support capital improvements for the hospital. Our Wound Care Center was recognized as a National Center of Excellence for the third year in a row and surpassed 3,000 hyperbaric treatments this past November. Our Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic introduced a Peripheral Artery Disease Treatment Program, and the hospital launched a minimally invasive spine surgery program with board-certified neurosurgeon Dr. Kevin Cahill.

Over the summer, Dosher earned a 5-star patient satisfaction rating on a 0 - 5 scale, scoring in the top 6% nation-wide for patient experience. Our CNO, COO and VP of Patient Care Services Carol Northup also earned recognition as one of Greater Wilmington Business Journal's Healthcare Heroes, in the category of Healthcare Executive.
In July, Governor Cooper held a round table discussion at the hospital to gather input from community leaders about the challenges rural areas face with their healthcare. Dosher, along with fellow healthcare systems nationwide, face the ongoing trials of reconciling financial hurdles while continuing to provide high quality care, employ talented staff, and expand services.

It takes vision, vigilance, and solid leadership to remain on course in the ever changing landscape of healthcare, and I am confident that we have the right team in place to do this. The hospital Trustees and administrative leadership are ready to forge ahead into 2020, working toward new milestones, and overcoming challenges, while keeping the needs of our patients at the center of everything we do.
Happy New Year!

Robert Howard, Chairman, Dosher Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees
