Dosher Volunteers Award 3 College Scholarships

The Dosher Volunteers make our hospital and clinics better places. They have a friendly greeting for everyone who comes through the hospital entrance. They help patients and visitors find their destinations. They run our gift shop and raise money for purchases that enhance patient care. They perform many administrative tasks behind the scenes that help with the day to day operation of the hospital. However, the reach of our volunteers spans way beyond the walls of Dosher and out into the community, which is one of the many reasons why we are thankful for them. Each spring, the Dosher Volunteer Organization awards scholarships to three deserving recipients who are interested in pursuing careers in healthcare.

This year, the Dosher Volunteers Organization presented $3,000 scholarships to two area high school graduates and one Dosher staff member.

The high school graduates were Angel Johnson from North Brunswick High School, who ranked second in her class, attending Winston Salem State University this fall, and Oleksandr Malenko from South Brunswick High School, who ranked fifth in his class, and who will attend East Carolina University this fall. Both Johnson and Malenko are members of the National Honor Society and participated in several leadership activities through their high school careers.

Elizabeth Millard, the third recipient, is a surgical technician at Dosher Hospital, who is known for her diligence, hard work and leadership among the surgical team. Millard is pursuing a nursing degree and currently attends Brunswick Community College.

The Dosher Volunteers Organization is an independent group of women and men formed in 1972, whose goal is to make the hospital experience as pleasant as possible for patients and their families. Find out more about them at www.Dosher.org/Volunteers.
