Wellness Coalition Names New Executive Director
Leigh Lane has been named the new Executive Director of the Brunswick Wellness Coalition. Lane, who holds a doctorate degree in Health Administration, has over 20 years of experience in leadership, capacity building, and health promotion in various healthcare settings. She has most recently served as an Associate Director at UNC Wilmington in the Abrons Student Health Center overseeing Health Promotion, Crossroads, which focuses on substance abuse prevention and education, and the Collegiate Recovery Community. Lane has also held a number of service positions with organizations such as the North Carolina Society of Public Health Education and the Southern College Health Association. Additionally, she served as a member of the Safety Committee, Wellness Committee, and Emergency Planning Committee at UNC Wilmington.
The Brunswick Wellness Coalition was recently selected to continue participation in the Duke Endowment's Healthy People Healthy Carolinas initiative, receiving a $450,000 grant to help improve health in Brunswick County over the next three years. The program takes a bold approach to addressing chronic health issues, such as unhealthy weight, diabetes, and heart disease and involves a wide spectrum of community organizations who work together to engage residents in improving their health.
