Dosher Receives Healthcare Achievement Award for Innovation and Community Impact
Dosher has received a healthcare achievement award from Intalere, a healthcare supply chain company, for community impact and innovation. The award recognizes the initiative Dosher took, as a founding partner of the Brunswick Wellness Coalition (BWC), to secure innovative partnerships to help curb climbing rates of obesity and other chronic diseases in predominantly rural Brunswick County.
BWC, which today, consists of nearly 40 organizations representing a diverse set of voices, promotes physical activity, proper nutrition, chronic disease management, and education throughout the county. The Wellness Coalition Executive Committee developed outcomes, according to Dosher's Community Health Needs Assessment and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) County Health Rankings, as follows:
Reduce the diabetes prevalence percentage
Reduce the heart disease death rate
Reduce adult obesity Reduce physical inactivity
Increase fruit and vegetable consumption
Approximately 6,600 individuals in Brunswick County have participated in a BWC initiative. The Brunswick Wellness Coalition takes a bold approach to addressing chronic health issues such as unhealthy weight, diabetes, and heart disease and involves a wide spectrum of community organizations who work together to engage residents in improving their health. According to RWJF county health rankings, out of 100 counties, Brunswick was ranked 45 in 2016 in overall health outcomes and improved its rank to 34 by 2019.
Lynda Stanley, President of Dosher Memorial Hospital and the Dosher Foundation, says, "We are grateful for this recognition from Intalere and are thrilled to see residents of Brunswick County getting involved with programs organized by the Wellness Coalition. Our hope is that they are taking knowledge they learn in Coalition sponsored programs and implementing it into the creation of healthier habits at home."

Lynda Stanley (L), President of Dosher Memorial Hospital and the Dosher Foundation, and Leigh Lane (R), Executive Director of the Brunswick Wellness Coalition, accept the Intalere Community Impact/Innovation Award.
