A Message from the Board
2020: Unprecedented Times, Unprecedented Milestones
2020 has been a year filled with unprecedented uncertainty. A pandemic and the economic downturn which resulted from COVID-19 have served as a global backdrop, in addition to having a profound effect on our local service area.
Internally, Dosher faced vacancies in executive leadership, COVID related financial challenges, and the hurdles of operational learning curves that every healthcare system had to meet, in order to treat patients safely in our current pandemic climate.
Despite the challenges Dosher has faced, we have also achieved milestones parallel in magnitude with any achieved during Dosher's 90-year history. Despite the very real challenges of the year 2020, Dosher can proclaim success or improvement in most every area. A snapshot of accomplishments made by our team this year include:
The addition of four (4) new physicians to our medical staff, including two family medicine physicians, a gynecologist, and a general surgeon
Dosher begins to offer self-request mammograms
The Dosher Wound Care Center receives a Center of Distinction award for outcome and patient satisfaction for the fourth year in a row
The Dosher Foundation receives a 378K grant from the Golden Leaf Foundation for the construction of an on-site water well
The Dosher Foundation gives over 20K back to the hospital for the Employee Assistance Program and for equipment purchases
The Dosher Foundation receives another endowment from Duke for the Brunswick Wellness Coalition
Dosher receives an award from Press Ganey for Patient Satisfaction Excellence
Dosher celebrates its 90th anniversary
Dr. Brad Hilaman and Lynda Stanley, who were named interim CEO and President of Dosher respectively back in February, have been appointed permanently in these positions.
We continue to seek ways to stay best positioned to meet your healthcare needs as they arise, investing in additional services, providers, and technology so that we may stay ahead of the curve in an environment of constant change.
We thank our hospital leaders, our physicians, and associates, for their leadership, hard work, and investment in our patients. We thank our volunteer organization who devote their valuable time all year long to help us fulfill our mission. We thank our employees for standing strong and for your dedication, caring, and commitment to our patients during this stressful time. We thank you, our patients, for utilizing Dosher for your care, for your trust in us, and for your unwavering support. We know you have a choice as to where you seek healthcare, and we thank you for continuing to choose Dosher. We promise to continue to innovate and continue to look for opportunities to expand and improve our services in order to best serve you, your families, and the people you care about the most.
Sincerely,
Robert Howard, Chair, Dosher Board of Trustees
