In the community

Good Shepherd Center posted the following on Facebook

Thanks to Dosher Memorial Hospital, our kitchen volunteers are happy to have lots of new equipment, including this awesome industrial salad spinner. Our Soup Kitchen serves a green salad with every meal, so this is a great help to our hard working volunteers. Good Shepherd provides services to Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender Counties, and we are so lucky to have the support of our friends in Southport. (Dosher donated the surplus items in January.)

Spring Into Health

Close to 225 people ran or walked in Brunswick Wellness Coalition's second community health event from Dosher through downtown Southport in March. Meanwhile, a diabetes screening event by BWC members in April identified half as pre-diabetic.

BWC has set County Care Fairs at three Walmart parking lots 5-8 p.m. on July 16, Leland, August 16, Southport, and September 18, Shallotte. Read more at Facebook.com/BrunswickWellness.

Cardiac Cruisers-made up of Dosher employees and past and current cardiac rehabilitation patients-was the largest team with 51 participants. The second Dosher team had 49 entrants. Thanks to the 40 volunteers who staffed information tables and monitored the course that day.

Consumer Showcase

Thanks to the 600 guests who attended the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce Consumer Showcase in March, especially those who stopped by the Dosher table, above. Photo by Zeb Barnes.

OKI Lighthouse Run

Close to 1,200 runners participate in the Chamber's 20th annual run in April, sponsored by Dosher.

Superfoods

Dosher Chef Lisa Botnick conducts a healthy cooking demonstration. Nearly 250 people attended the various doc talks and healthy cooking events over the winter and spring. Watch for a new series of talks and demos this fall.

Operation Medicine Cabinet

More than 150 households, businesses and organizations dropped off expired prescriptions and other unwanted medications at Dosher's semiannual drug drop in April. Dosher thanks Coastal Horizons Center, New Hanover County Health Department, Brunswick County Sheriff's Department, Southport Police, and WWQQ radio. Next one: Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018.
